League Discussion: ibj214

I'm posting most of this before the conclusion of our game. But IBJ isn't fit for the league right now. Do we give him a chance to straighten things out? A couple of you were watching via twitch and could notice these things as well.

Infractions:
DEFENSE: 95% Nickel defense called, even against Base and Big looks. Including Goalline. Texted in the first quarter to match up personnel and it continued through the whole game.

Mix up play calling on both offense and defense. Expand your playbook by trying new plays and formations in Practice Mode if you're not comfortable with a big playbook. Madden 25 is a new game, plays that may not have worked last year need to be re-tried this year. You'll be surprised.  If the offense spreads the field with 4 receivers or more, you shouldn't be in a base defense, you need to be in Nickel and Dime. If you're backed up into your own red zone, whatever formation you want to use is fine because the situation dictates it. When on Defense, call your play after the offense to ensure you're not mismatching personnel.

OFFENSE: No Huddle: Quick Snap:
Wasn't a staple of the offense. But after a few  bad plays, would go nu huddle, which is allowed within the rules. But would snap in less than 2 seconds to throw a quick route to Jimmy Graham.

No-huddle is the major fad these days, and EA did a great job implementing a great audible feature this year. No huddle is fair game. However, be fair about giving your opponent a chance to call their own audible. The offense already gets the upper-hand in forcing the defense to stay in that personnel group. The offense is too, but the options are great to create a mismatch.

OFFENSE: Irregular Formation Subs: 
Only happened once, but clearly not sim. Manually subbed in Offensive lineman creating a 2 RB, 1 TE Formation and after breaking huddle, audibled to a play bring lineman into the backfield immediately. It could've been Heavy packaged Goalline with the audible following, I don't know. But it became Pistol look.

Warning on 4th down rules. Inside your own 25 in the 3rd quarter, you should not be going for it down 14. I should've offered to have offsetting penalties with a delay of game and subsequent offsides. You called a time out, and I wasted one to even it out.

Up by 14 or more – You are not allowed to go for it. You must kick (FG or Punt).
Up by 13 or less (or tied) – You may go for it if it is 4th and short (3 yards or less) but only if you have reached your opponent's 35 yard line.
Losing by 16 or less - you may go for it in on 4th and short (3 yards or less) but only once you have crossed midfield and entered your opponent’s side of the field.
Losing by 17 or more - you may attempt a 4th down conversion in any situation.
***If you find that a player broke a 4th down rule, it is expected that the violator punt the ball to the opponent immediately.

So thoughts? Just wanted this posted to gain feedback. Correctable actions. I'd lean towards a warning.  But if these are habits, it's not fair to subject other users to it. That's why I ask for a bit more feedback to sway me.

Put him on final warning

I vote warning and see if it happens again. We should give new guys a little bit to get adjusted. Though I did not see the game

I tried to adjust my defense after your text, but guess I didn't adjust like you wanted me to. Offensive wise, I never actually set my lineman to drop by into the backfield, it must've been a play or audible that made that situation happen. I will make sure I remember all the details of rules next game. GG again, thanks!

If you're seeing your opponent in a traditional set with a RB and multiple TE/FB you shouldn't be in Nickel coverage. Beef up with a 3-4 or 4-3 Base Defense, 5-2, 4-4, 4-6, etc.

When there are 3+ WR, then you should generally be matching up with extra secondary in Nickel or Dime. There's legit situations where it's 3rd and inches where you may want the coverage out, and want a base defense to attack the run.

I say just warning. If he's doing the lineman thing that's the real thing I find cheesy instead of just not smart. But he says he wasn't so I say take his word for it and if it happens again get a suspension or something

I'd also vote for a warning.

I already played him twice (preseason and week 4 game) and I also realized he's almost always in Nickel defense, so I came out in power formations and just ran all over him once I established a lead.

By now he probably knows what's expected of him, so let's just issue a warning and see if he can adjust his playing style to fit the sim play of the league.

Havn't played or met him, but there was a time when I ran primarily all 4-3 first stint with the lions, till it was brought to my attention....so I say just a warning
