2016 Season - Week 2

I would like to take a moment to those players we have lost this week to the traps laid by Fallout 4 and Call of Duty Black Ops 3. Your attention spans will sorely be missed.

Week 1 was about set for about 2 1/2 days instead of 3, but everyone did great in scheduling and getting their games in.  The user games were within 24 points or less, so no major blowouts. All CPU games were within 25 points, minus Jeff's humbling to the hands of the Chiefs.  Week 2 should be fun to see who builds off last week's performance, and who is still searching for answers.

Free Agents:
I'm not going to restrict Free Agent signings anymore. BUT, do not be that guy that signs 20 people and cuts 20 others and just rebuilds your entire roster via FA. Be reasonable.

Penalties:
User teams average nearly 3 penalties per game. The spread was 0 to 7. I think about 4-5 penalties is the sweet spot, and there were only 2 users at 5+ penalties.  I will lower false starts and offsides down one notch to try and balance them.

Settings:
EA said they patched settings like the Kicking Arc and whatnot. Because of people being in multiple leagues, I cannot enforce manually turning kicking arc and other settings off. I will be reverting the arc back to normal since everyone else has access to it, but I recommend testing the different ballhawk and auto-strafe settings yourself to see if they help/hinder your play-style.

This should go without saying, but please stop spamming routes/formations/plays. The point of this league is to mix things up. I had a couple people mention seeing the same looks far too often.

There are multiple exciting games this week. The Bears vs Seahawks was a great defensive battle last year with Chicago prevailing late in the 2nd half. Eagles/Cowboys square off two buddies that probably know each other's tendencies pretty well. The relative newcomers, nour and d-stylez fight for early NFC South supremacy, as is also the case with relative longtimers Cape and Yt throwing down in the AFC South.

The unknown is always exciting/terrifying. What will the NFC South look like this season? Falcons vs Panthers should be an interesting endeavor. I know of zero tendencies of either user. Maybe some scouting reports should be generated, right? But instead of picking the Falcons/Panthers, we're going with a team of consistency in the Texans versus a team on an absolute roller coaster a year ago in the Colts.

Week 3 opens Friday night.

Just had the craziest CPU game of my life. It should be on Twitch if you want to view.

Chargers top Broncos in comeback thriller

After throwing 5 INTs in the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers knew he had to play better. And for 3 quarters, that wasn't the case as he already had 2 INTs. Going into the 4th down 28-14 against a RED HOT Brock Osweiler, the Chargers were in danger of falling 0-2.

Then the Chargers turned it on, scoring 4 TDs to the Broncos' 2 TDs. The game-tying TD came from a 58 yard bomb to WR Stevie Johnson, who then followed it up with 2 PT conversion. The Chargers had no intention of going to OT against the improved Broncos team.

Quick Notes
*Rivers and Osweiler both finished with 6 TDs.
*Rivers connected with 10 different pass catchers.
*3rd round pick WR Antuan Rhodes scored for the second straight game.
*TE LaDarius Green, in replacement of TE Antonio Gates, led with 2 TDs.
*FS Eric Weddle sealed the game with an INT.

Pittsburgh Steelers make two trades following Week 1 Victory

Its no secret the Steelers were looking to improve upon their CB situation in the offseason, especially after not being to come to terms with William Gay.  Unfortunately, their top targets were swooped up early in teh draft ahead of their selection and the price of a top tier CB in Free Agency seemed too high or the players were not a match for what the Steelers wanted to do.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Shortly after their Week 1 win, however, the Steelers front office struck a deal with the Seattle Seahawks that shipped LT Mike Adams to the west coast and netted CB Marcus Burley.  Burley provides that young, hungry, athletic CB with speed that the coaching staff so desperately was looking to find.  Mike Tomlin has stated there's a good chance that Burley will be inserted into the starting lineup as early as Week 2, provided he can learn the defense in time.

The Steelers also started preparing for next offseason as they shipped off speedster RB Dri Archer to the Redskins for Washington's 3rd Round pick in the 2017 draft.  Archers stock was high following his first career KO Return for a TD against the Patriots, but his departure opens the door for rookie CB JT Dansby to see the field as the team's primary returner.

In an attempt to fill the void left at RB and OT, the Steelers also made two Free Agents signings prior to their Week 2 matchup with Buffalo.  Pittsburgh signed RB Andre Ellington and LT Curtis Brown to provide depth at those positions.

Vikings rough up the Rams as rookie WR Devonta Bridges busts out for 111 yds and 2 TD's.  With AP and Latavius Murray sharing the carries, the offense clicked very well and hopefully it'll stay that way.

A year ago, a defensive battle broke late in the second half as the Bears found a way to win.

This year, an offensive festival of TDs put points on the board early, before a slow 3rd quarter gave way to an explosive 14 point 4th quarter by the Seahawks to come from behind (giggity) and win.  As you can see in the image above, Prince Amukamara is slacking off his zone coverage, and the pass goes right through him with less than 30 seconds left.

Seahawks rookie WR Jeffrey Benjamin was all sorts of on fire, slashing the Bears secondary short, and burning them deep while the secondary focused on Jimmy Graham, who still got his.

All was not lost for the Bears. Kevin White is coming into his own, with almost 150 yards receiving and a TD. Mettenberger threw two picks, but they weren't necessarily bad. The Bears defense performed admirably, but couldn't account for one player and it cost them.

Dolphins fell in Cleveland 31-30. Miami opted for a 2-PT conversion try following a TD with less than 20 seconds remaining. A predictable play call led to Lamar Miller being stuffed in the backfield and the Browns recovering the onside kick sealed the win.

Miller had a solid day on the ground but Miami leaned on the pass to get them out of tough spots far too often. WR Devante Parker continues to standout as the Dolphins' go-to-guy as he had 2 clutch TDs in the game.

Steelers cruise to an easy win over the Buffalo Bills.  Buffalo took the opening kickoff and drove down for a FG and a 3-0 lead, however Pittsburgh would score the last 27 points of the game for a ho-hum 27-3 victory.

Texans defeat Colts in hard fought divisional game. Rookie QB Devin Neally continues to amaze with another great game: 280 yards and 3 TDs through the air. And the Texans needed him to shine since the Colts' defense was magnificent and locked down Arian Foster for most of the game.
