If the Brad Golden watch wasn't enough to stir the border war between Nebraska and Iowa, watch out for the Bobby Hale media storm.
Nebraska entered last week with a huge lead on the dual threat QB. Hale is ranked as the #4 scrambler in the nation. Entering this week, Iowa has shot up the board and seriously challenged the Huskers for Hale's signature, even if the gap has stretched further in the Huskers favor, this is now a two pony race. Nebraska also stoked the coals a bit this week, letting slip that Hale has scheduled to fly into Lincoln for the Heroes Game matchup in November.
The Cookeville (TN) Cavaliers do it all quarterback is an imposing 6'5" and 235 lbs already and boasts great speed, and adequate passing touch to challenge for a day 1 starting gig. Early prognosticators are comparing him to Vince Young. Iowa offers the path of least resistance to a starting spot, and both schools have proven track records in the AALoA. While both coaches have gotten dual threat QBs season ending hardware, teenagers have short memories, and only Taylor Martinez' name is getting called in the media these days. Nobody remembers Philip Sims at this point.

After losing a heartbreaker in OT to Ohio State where he threw a TD with 1sec left to take it to OT
Logan Thomas was quoted saying:
"No heisman hype yet that'll take time look at Geno Smith last year, everyone wanted to give him a heisman after his 7TD game and now hes a Jet, my time will come, until then watch our next game against Iowa and find out how good I am."

NCAA14 Power Recruiting
Another week in recruiting and another development. The battle for the #2 ranked DE (Four Star prospect Brad Golden) has heated up. What we're hearing from multiple sources is that Brad Golden crossed the border into Iowa and made an unofficial visit to Iowa City. Golden was in the stands to witness the Hawkeyes defeat Iowa State and reclaim the Cy-Hawk Trophy. We reached out the Golden and his family the Monday after and asked if the trip to Iowa City had swayed his decision at all.
Golden had the following to say:
"I definitely enjoyed the Iowa-Iowa State game this weekend. Coach Steel Pitt looks like he may be turning that program around sooner than expected. The atmosphere was great even in the rain. I haven't made any decisions yet but its pretty much down to Nebraska and Iowa but I wouldn't say I'm leaning either way."
Stay tuned as this battle continues to heat up.

Last-second FG propels Mizzou to road win
Missouri 20, Indiana 17
Missouri K Andrew Baggett celebrates with teammates after his last-second FG.
It wasn't pretty, but the Missouri Tigers eked out a road win Thursday night against the previously undefeated Indiana Hoosiers.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 2-1 on the season, and 1-0 under new head coach Mr. Mustard. But it wasn't easy.
The offense struggled to find a rhythm early on as two costly turnovers by Freshman QB Maty Mauk gave the Hoosiers easy scoring chances inside the red zone, and a quick 10 points on the board. For a while, that was all they needed.
Mauk was making just his second career start Thursday, after Senior QB James Franklin went down Week 1 with a dislocated elbow. He connected early and often with WRs Dorial Green-Beckham and L'Damian Washington, but the offense stalled time and again in scoring position in the first half.
After the game, Mustard credited the defense with keeping the team in the game.
"You know, it really wasn't until late in the 3rd that our offense was able to settle down," Mustard said. "So you gotta give the D a lot of credit. Those guys played hard out there."
But when the offense finally got on track and took a 17-10 lead, the defense folded, surrendering a long TD drive to Indiana on the very next series. Mauk responded with a gem of his own, controlling the ball for the next 5 minutes to set up K Andrew Baggett with a chance to win the game.
Baggett missed a chipshot from the right hashmark earlier, but was able to redeem himself after RB Henry Josey centered the ball around the 15 yard line.
"Look, we know that ain't gonna work in SEC play. But come on, man," Mauk said. "I just got Coach Mustard's playbook three days ago. We're happy with the win."

Yeah, nothing against Indiana. It was just one of those games where I felt like I was beating myself. Only 2 TOs, but I felt like I should've put up 35 points, easy. Instead I did stupid things on 3rd downs, missed a 20-yard FG, etc., etc.Steel Pitt wrote: Nice win. That B1G is tough all around, lol.

Fourth Quarter Collapse Costs Iowa
The old mantra is that the game is four quarters and the Iowa Hawkeyes found that out the hard way as they watched the Virginia Tech Hokies score 14 unanswered fourth quarter points en route to a 21-14 victory. A 48 yard TD strike from QB Jake Rudock to WR Kevonte Manley Martin early in the second quarter gave the Hawkeyes a 14-7 lead. Both teams would put on a defensive show for the next quarter and a half as that remained the score with 3 minutes left in the game when Logan Thomas tied it up with a 5 yard scoring toss to WR DJ Coles. Still unable to get anything going on offense the Hawkeyes were forced to punt and the Hokies quickly capitalized with a 74 yard TD pass to TE Ryan Malleck. The Hokies defense made that score stick as they went on to the 21-14 win. Iowa falls to 3-1 as they get set to open B1G play next week on the road at Minnesota.

Wow, another great game it looks like. The B1G is already shaping up to be a total battle.
PSU and Notre Dame tried to play twice tonight but both times the game froze for me after we selected playbooks and were ready. It just froze up and never made it to the kickoff screen. Game resecheduled for Saturday night

Nebraska Triumphant in Nashville
Superman? Nah, just Jamal Turner.
The Cornhuskers went on the road for the second time this season. Toppling the Commodores, can the team crack the Top 10, with a 4-0 record?
Taylor Martinez was not a Heisman caliber QB on the day, but he was near unstoppable. The Commodores gambled time and again taking away Martinez' first option in the running and passing game. The lone turnover in the game was an athletic play by a Vanderbilt LB who abandoned the deep zone to jump a shallow drag route, but was still able to rise up and elevate to snag the pass intended for a receiver several yards behind him.
Vanderbilt QB Austyn Carta Samuels was incredible in the passing game. His pinpoint accuracy made Sophomore CB Jonathan Rose look silly to the point that coach Jeanneret had to bench him in favor of the seniors who had more game experience. The move dropped the big plays from Vanderbilt's passing offense, forcing Carta Samuels to check down to receivers short of the sticks ending drives.
Final Score

Nebraska gets a much needed week off as they prepare for their B1G slate. After the bye week, the Huskers will face Illinois. After a failed MACtion experiment, the powers that be righted the ship and hired Coach Brown who has the team off to an exciting 3-0 start. Maybe Illinois can have nice things after all?
