2017 Season Preview
Three Things to Watch
1. Nebraska or Alabama?
One of these schools has played for the national title in all four years of the dynasty, and they're rated 1 and 2 to begin this season. Alabama has more title game appearances (3) than Nebraska (2), but the Cornhuskers have won both times they have made an appearance, including the only head-to-head title match.
This year's head-to-head non-conference matchup will take place on Bama's turf, giving the Crimson Tide a leg up in the pivotal regular season clash. But if both make it back, can Nebraska pull off two straight on a neutral field?
2. Can UCLA break through?
Ken's UCLA Bruins had a breakout season after years of struggling against a tough Pac-12. They dominated the regular season in route to a Rose Bowl win.
Voters noticed. They come into this season ranked 6th in the country, just behind the annual Pac-12 favorites, USC. If UCLA can run the table in conference play, they may only need to win one of two against Alabama and Nebraska to have a shot at a national title.
3. Can Mizzou right the ship?
After making back-to-back SEC title games, and three consecutive bowl games, Mr. Mustard's Missouri Tigers crapped the bed in 2016, blowing late leads to finish at 5-7 and miss the post-season.
It gets worse. Mizzou graduated more than half of its starters, including QB Maty Mauk, the only Tiger to start games in each of the last four seasons. Are fresh faces just what the doctor ordered? Or will a lack of experience make it that much harder for Missouri to recover from last year's debacle?
4. Fantasy Football
With only redshirt freshmen remaining from the original roster set, this is the first year that nearly every player on the field will be a CPU-generated recruit. UCLA and Mizzou, in particular, could be vulnerable after years of weak recruiting classes compared to their competition.

Actually, Busch and Golden come from the same recruiting class. I beat Pitt out for Golden, a local Nebraska boy. Then I beat Ani out for Busch, from your home turf. I red-shirted Golden Season 2, and Busch had a great Freshman year. Season 3, Golden had an amazing year as a freshman, Busch only had a great year. Season 4, Busch dominated again. Season 5 should be...interesting.MeanMrMustard wrote:Preseason All-Americans

Oops. Had USC on my mind because I was looking up their ranking when I wrote that. Either that or I subconsciously wanted to make a Trojan pun with "break through."

Missouri can't overcome turnovers or first half deficit, and fall to Nebraska in Columbia. Despite holding Nebraska to only field goals in the second half, Mizzou failed to capitalize on opportunities.
Bobby Hale was both good and bad with 2 picks and 2 TDs for the Huskers. Mizzou threw 3 INTs on the day and did not find the end zone.

AL 63 - MSU 14
In the first start of his career Chris Phillips did not disappoint. He decimated the Michigan State defense and led the Crimson Tide to a blowout victory against a top ten opponent on the road.
Michigan State has gone to a Flexbone attack(??) and was really annoying to try and stop on defense. Once we contained the run and forced them into 3rd and long situations where they would have to pass, the route was on.
We are trying a fews different things on defense this year in an attempt to have all our best athletes on the field all the time. Holding the Spartans to 14 points seems like a good start.
Players of the Game
Offense: Chris Phillips, QB, 15-19, 271 Yds, 12 Car, 113 Yds, 7 Total TDs.
Defense: Jonathan Allen, LOLB, 6 Tkls, 3 TFL, 2 Sks, FF
