I loved Madden 06 with the vision cone. More than making the entire game more difficult to play, to me it really separated the elite QB's from the rest of the guys in a way that no other football game ever has. On Madden 13, guys like Peyton and Brees might be way better than guys like Stanzi or Brandstater (aka bums) but are they way better than guys like Cutler, Ponder, Alex Smith, or other average or less than elite guys? Not imho. Thanks to the vision cone in Madden 06, they were. You had elite QB's, good QB's, average guys, and bums. Ever since they took it off it seems every QB can make every throw, some just do it a little more consistently and with a little more zip on the passes.
I don't remember a thing about Madden 07, but IIRC Madden 08 was when they introduced Weapons and Javon Walker was virtually unstoppable in the game (among other WR's) thanks to the ridiculous catches he could make. Madden 10 and 11 were ok imho, flawed but good. Madden 13 is easily the best game on this gen imho, and Madden 25 plays like 13.5 judging by the demo.
I really hope EA hits the next gen floor running with Madden and we don't have to wait 3-4 years for a real next gen Madden like we seemed to have to this gen.

Eight days to Madden. I'm not sure how it was for everybody else, but this was my very last Madden on the PS2 console. I was still broke in college, and would bust this out in the living room and play any passer-by who was crashing at the house. A pretty unforgettable game if you ask me.
It did offer the Player Weapons which was great. The BEST weapon was the Light Bulb icon. Players like Brian Urlacher could tell when the other team was running the same play over and over again and actually show it to you on the field. Pattern recognition would be incredible in Madden nowadays to jump the slants and hitches, but also make Sluggos and Out-n-Up routes a more viable weapon. Devin Hester was the first player to break the speed threshold notching a 100 speed rating.

I played the hell out of '07. Remember the radio guy in franchise that would talk about league news while you were in the menus? Loved that.
'08 on PS2 actually had my favorite game mode in any Madden ever, narrowly beating out the mini-camp drills from back in the day. I think it was called Fantasy Challenge mode or something like that. Kind of a precursor to Ultimate Team in a lot of ways, but you played with a stripped down roster, and played tournament-style matches to level your team up and buy new cards. Really a shame that didn't make the jump to next gen. Would've been fun online.
Man.. now I just remembered the Madden cards from back in 2001-2003-ish. Those were pretty fun to collect, although I never really used them.

Vision Cone bitches! I'm in support of the vision cone. It was challenging in a game that can be far too easy to pass in at times. I played the absolutely daylights out of this because it was my first year of college and Madden was universally playable by everyone. That and MarioKart. On N64. Duh.
Besides the vision cone we got Superstar mode, which has been inconsistently half-assed. They really need to bring in scenario writers and just go all out on the story to make the mode worthwhile. This was also the only NFL game that year as the exclusivity agreement was signed by EA/NFL. This launched next generation football too with the lousy XBox 360 version.

I know the rookies are out of whack, but it's weird to see a 4th rd pick rated higher than a 2nd rounder in Bears LBs Greene and Bostic. Of course these ratings will alter greatly with the season opening roster updates. Peppers seemed low, but I think they're trying to limit the "elite" players some.

This has to be one of the top 3 Madden's of all time. HIT STICK HIT STICK HIT STICK. It revolutionized gameplay in Madden as we know it. The bonecrushing blows to RBs were just awesome. Outside of the boom stick, there were underrated features like the "Create a Fan." I had a buddy in high school that would come over to play, and would have fans queued up to talk personalized trash and really salt the wounds.

Countdown to Madden
Sat Aug 24, 2013 10:48 am
I didn't intentionally skip the 2004 version of Madden. Just got pre-occupied with a family health item and the Season Ticket release. Madden 2003 was a huge milestone for the game. It was the first Madden to incorporate online gameplay (I'm from the middle of bumfuck nowhere, so couldn't play online, even if I paid the $50 or $100 for the PS2 Network Adapter). The game also released the first robust "EA Trax" soundtracks that we've all known and loved, until they ruined it last year. You could create a playbook with custom plays. This game was very solid.

Would folks be OK with exporting our NCAA league draft classes every year for Madden? I would LOVE it if we did that. Would sidestep all the stupid draft class cheat sheets that come out every year, too. I would think we'd be finishing year 1 in NCAA pretty close to when we start Madden. I assume that like in years past, you'd have to import the draft class at the beginning of the season.Steel Pitt wrote:Ohh that is pretty cool. Already been thinking about it. A.) It would be awesome for the immersion factor, but those of us in the NCAA league would have a stronger knowledge of the prospects based on how they did. B.) I was thinking of just simulating a CPU franchise to export rosters so that it's completely unbiased.MeanMrMustard wrote:Would folks be OK with exporting our NCAA league draft classes every year for Madden? He'd probably have to save it to a thumb drive, then email it to you, if we really wanted to go that route. Or maybe you could give him commish duties for the import process, and then switch back.the_EDJ wrote:Already been thinking about it. A.) I read on OS that Madden readjusts and somewhat randomizes ratings when it imports the class, so it could be that past performance wouldn't make a huge difference. I get where you're coming from, though. One way or the other, as long as we have real NCAA players, I'm happy.

Yeah it would be nice to use the file from our league but like you said I'm not sure how you would get the file from me or if file sharing is possible. Either way, you could just sim a season for the purposes of the draft class.
