League Discussion: Advance Schedule

So we have two options. Stick with the 72 hour advance schedule that we've used regularly.  With a smaller league, I was curious if anyone wanted to test a free-flow scheduling style. No set advance date, and then as soon as the last user/user game is played, we advance 24 hours later unless all CPU games are played.

We're going to average about 3 or 4 user/user games per game week. Minimum of 1 (Week 10), maximum of 6 (Week 6 and 12)? If a user/user matchup isn't getting scheduled, then we'll set the 72 hour clock or award an Auto-Pilot matchup and move on from there.

Thoughts? Preferences?

I like the free form idea. I would suggest a minimum time per week though to get a User VS CPU game in. Like, just to use a random number, 48 hours. So, if the 48 hour period has ended, and all user games are finished and we can't get ahold of someone who has a CPU game, then the CPU game gets simmed. I'd hate to hold up advance consistently because of CPU games but that's just how I feel.


Having a smaller league will let us get through more seasons as well and generallybe more fun for everyone.

I started work full time and still going to grad school but I need to fit this league in for sure.

Steelers are not actually joining it looks like, so that user game list got smaller for some people...

The most user games for me, sweeeeeeeeeeet.  Game on fellas!

I like free form, but IMO it's kinda the same because if everyone gets those games in early before 72 hours we can advance early.  We could set a 48 hour limit for user/cpu games and hopefully the 3 or 4 user games will be done early as well and we could get rolling.  I'm fine with either one though.

I think we need a hard deadline. In my opinion, there is no reason why 3-4 user vs user games should take longer than 3 days. C'mon.  With a small league we should advance quicker and get through more seasons. Waiting 48 hrs for 1 game is crazy

Keep in mind that even if we followed the regular schedule we've used in the past, we're advancing about the same. The season opened Sunday and we're at week 3. Three games per week is still a solid clip.

If we start slowing down I'd be more concerned and would think it'd be important to go with a hard deadline. In this instance, the game in question has two things to be aware of. One, the new guy is going to have to be reminded to schedule his games and follow the forum closer.  And two, the other player isn't available until Monday. I'm thinking we can advance early on Monday since they should both be available early.

I agree with Mission. I get that it's a new guy and we all have different schedules and I know I won't be able to play 100% of my games because of my weird work schedule but I really don't want it to be a habit of waiting 2 days for one user game, especially since it's not like a playoff deciding game or anything crazier than a ho-hum week 3 matchup. Hopefully new guy cna get it together and understand the expectations of checking the forum daily. It literally takes 3 seconds of time. I counted.

I think you know what I was saying. There's a difference between a game 17 divisional matchup and one in Week 3. All I'm saying is that I hope this waiting for 48 hours for a single game doesn't become habit. If it starts to then I'd say go with a hard deadline if weeks start getting drawn out.

No weeks are going to be drastically drawn out. There were scheduling conflictions and we weren't able to get the game in these past couple days. I apologize and hopefully it won't happen again.
