Season 1 Rookie of the Year
Sat Oct 12, 2013 1:49 am
Now that we've crossed the halfway point of the season, it's time to start thinking of who is emerging as the next standout player in the franchise and I thought it would be cool to spotlight the rookies of the league. With accelerated XP, it's pretty easy to mold a player how you want. So if you have an exciting rookie bursting on the scene, post about him, sharing any key stats, key games, whatever. If you get torched by a rookie, share your disdain for him. With a pool of rookies, we can vote on the most impressive rookie before we bury them on the depth chart for the next exciting draft pick we pick up.

I'd like to nominate my DE/OLB Dion Jordan for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Halfway through the season he's second in the league in sacks and he's also playing well in coverage for me.

Slay on kick returns was almost unstoppable.
I have a pair of undrafted rookies in QB Bray and WR Johnson that will be a force together next yr. Looks like this is my building yr lol

While not a key part of my offense, I'd like WR Marquess Wilson to be on this watchlist. He supplanted two veterans to earn the slot WR position as a #3 guy.
Earl Bennett and Devin Hester are riding the bench because of him and he puts up some big catches due to defenses having to cover Marshall (and to an extent Jeffery and Martellus Bennett).

Eric Reid and Corey Lemonier have both been huge for my defense. Reid is 6th in the league with 4 picks, and Lemonier has 7 TFL and 4 Sacks.

I'll throw Cordarrelle Patterson's name in the mix. In my non-sim games he's been a beast and is giving me great field position on KO's. I believe he has 2 or 3 KO TD's so far as well.

Bills' EJ Manuel leads all QBs with 2,064 yards passing. He also leads rookies in TD passes.
Packers Eddie Lacy leads all rookies with 871 yards rushing. Le'Veon Bell ties Lacy for the lead in rushing TDs with 11.
Steelers' Markus Wheaton leads all rookies with 688 yards receiving.
Vikings' Cordarrelle Patterson leads all rookies with 5 TD receptions. Add his returns as well that Commndo pointed out.
Eagles' Lane Johnson and Bears' Kyle Long lead all rookies with 11 Pancake blocks.
Browns' Barkevious Mingo leads all rookies in Tackles with 61.
Dolphins' Dion Jordan leads all rookies with 11 Sacks (it's not even close).
Jets' Dee Milliner still leads all rookies in Interceptions with 6.
Lions' Ezekiel Ansah and Dolphins' Jamar Taylor tie to lead all rookies with 2 forced fumbles.
4 rookies are tied with 1 fumble recovery.
Rams' TJ McDonald leads all rookies with 2 Defensive TDs.
Dolphins' Dustin Hopkins leads all rookie Kickers with 5 Field Goals. Hopkins is the only rookie kicker...
Lions' Sam Martin leads rookie punters with 46.2 average.
The only other rookie punter ties Martin with 4 Punts Inside the 20.
Lions' rookies Darius Slay and Corey Fuller both lead rookies with 2 Kick Return TDs each.
Buccaneers Johnthan Banks leads all rookies with a 33.0 average kick return.
Rams' Tavon Austin leads all rookies with 1 Punt Return TD.
Bears' Michael Ford leads all rookies with 29.0 average punt return. To qualify, Chargers' Keenan Allen actually has more than 2 returns, and averages 15.4, he's the real leader.
Any names left out? I think the biggest names that stick out are Jordan, Wheaton, Lacy, and Milliner as favorites.

Good job, EDJ. I think it's a three-way race between Dion Jordan (Dolphins), Eddie Lacy (Packers) and Dee Milliner (Jets). All of them are already among the league's best at what they do and play key positions.
Will there be just one Rookie of the Year or do we divide it into offense and defense (like in real NFL)?

Chargers WR Keenan Allen has around 400 yards and 4 TDs. He is the starter now so should challenge Wheaton and Patterson.

400 yds for a WR is not even close to what Jordan/Lacy/Milliner have done.
I don't think rookie of the year honors should/will go to some borderline starter this year because there are some guys who are already among the league's best at what they do as rookies.

Yeah I agree. I'm just saying if those wrs are in the convo then Allen has a chance a chance to match their production and be mentioned. My bad angry bird

It will be an interesting finish to the season with 3 weeks left. The big three previously posted need to maintain numbers if they can. Patterson is surging after facing him. It'll be nice to see if Keenan continue shooting up the leaderboards.
