A busy off-season in Jacksonville has finally brought life into a fan base that has grown accustomed to a losing franchise. Starting with a long list of changes we start with new owner Shad Khan, who has expressed his desire to turn the Jaguars into contenders and soon. Khan kicked off his era with the surprise hiring of unheralded but no non-sense coach Nicholas Leonard, and gave him full control over football operations.
Nicholas Leonard didn't take long to put his imprints on this team, starting with giving QB Blaine Gabbert his full confidence and stated "He's my guy". Gabbert responded to media saying "I'm excited to have the confidence of the coaching staff and onwership, now I can settle in and put last year behind me." And Blaine is going to have some new weapons as Coach Leonard didn't waste no time address what was possibly the worst receiving core in the league last year. He started with drafting the only two time Biletnikoff winner in NCAA history in Justin Blackmon in the 1st round, "we were excited we were able to snag him when we did, we feel he is a #1 receiver in terms of skill and attitude." Coach Leonard said of his pick. In two other moves move the Jaguars traded for Darrius Heyward-Bey from the Raiders and added FA Laurent Robinson who are both coming off career years. That now gives the Jaguars a Young #1 WR to groom, a deep threat, and one of the better slot options that were available. Is this what the Jags need to become contenders? Only time will tell.
