AALoA NCAA14 Dynasty
Season 2 Preview

Season 2 - Week 1 Open Lgcollegefootballteammap9

Its about that time again as we prepare to enter another season of college football.  The college football eagers anticipates the opening kickoff and the start of a new season.  AALoA Season 1 provided us with probably the most exciting and balanced season ever as each user game was hotly contested (with the exception of Nebraska/Illinois, lol), the CPU presented a stiff challenge and even Mother Nature reared here head into the picture to play a role in these games (ask Coach Mustard).  The eventually National Champion Nebraska Cornhuskers certainly earned that title having to get through a tough conference schedule and then tough user games in both the Conference Championship and National Title game (Congrats again).

Season 2 - Week 1 Open Bcs_trophy
The Nebraska Cornhuskers brought home this well deserved trophy to Lincoln.

Season 2 expects to be just as exciting.  The Cornhuskers lose Heisman Trophy winner, QB Taylor Martinez, but are still loaded and coach Jeanneret will certainly have his team ready to defend the crown.  He'll have plenty of competition as AALoA users crowd the top of the polls occupying the Top 4 spots in the pre-season Coaches Poll:

Season 2 - Week 1 Open 23022423_BG1

Users Only

1. Alabama
2. Virginia Tech
3. Nebraska
4. Notre Dame
8. Iowa
13. Ohio State
18. Michigan State

Season 2 - Week 1 Open Heisman-trophy

With the aforementioned Taylor Martinez leaving due to graduation, who will step up and stake their claim to being the best player in the country?  Coach Brian Kelly will certainly have someone on his Notre Dame team that will be in the running as RB George Atkinson III is the nation's leading returning rusher and WR Davaris Daniels is the defending AALoA User WR of the Year.  RB Damon Bullock of Iowa was a finalist last year and returns for the Hawkeyes as Coach Steel Pitt looks to continue the turn around in Iowa City.  Let's not forget that there is a newcomer to the league as Coach Denham takes over for Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa.  Could we see RB TJ Yeldon or WR Amari Cooper holding the hardware at season's end?

Season 2 - Week 1 Open Crystal-ball

As we look into our crystal ball, who will be this year's surprise team?  Coach Gruden and his Bruins are too good to suffer through another .500 season.  With a playmaker at QB in Brett Hundley, I would expect UCLA to rebound from last seasons disappointing year.  Will another season with Coach Truth be enough to turn around the Yellow Jackets?  How big of a factor will Wes Lunt be as the new QB for Coach Brown and the Fighting Illini?

We'll find out soon enough as the start of Season 2 is right around the corner.

Season 2 - Week 1 Open Nebraska_Cornhuskers_Helmet%255B1%255DSeason 2 - Week 1 Open Missouri_Tigers_Helmet

Jerry Jones has enjoyed showcasing his amazing facilities the past four season's as The House That Jerry Built has played host to the Cowboys Classic the past four seasons.  The 2014 season is no different as the defending National Champion Nebraska Cornhuskers are pitted against former Big 12 foe the Missouri Tigers.  These two teams and coaches have a long standing history against one another and if history serves us in Week 1 it will be a nail-biter to the end.

For the defending National Champions, they will have to replace last season's Heisman Trophy winner, QB Taylor Martinez.  Will it be the Sophomore Tommy Armstrong Jr, redshirt freshman Johnny Stanton or the true freshman Bobby Hale?  Either way, new OC Scott Frost will certainly ease the new QB into the offense and have them do a good deal of turning around and handing off to senior RB Ameer Abdullah.  When they do drop back to pass, WR Kenny Bell will certainly be the target of choice as he looks to conclude a great college career.  Despite the youth at QB, the Cornhuskers will be in the game thanks to a stout defense led by MLB David Santos.

The Missouri Tigers suffered what they thought was a major setback last season when starting QB Jefferson went down with an injury but it was a blessing in disguise as the Maty Mauk era began early and he didn't disappoint.  The sophomore QB is back behind Center and looking to lead this Tigers team to an SEC Championship.  Mauk, like the Nebraska QB, will also have a playmaker in the backfield to lean on as Senior James Posey will return at RB.  Posey was one of the more dangerous under the radar players last season and he will certainly play a big factor this season and in this game.

Can the Tigers cause the fresh meat at QB for Nebraska into making some mistakes?  Will Nebraska bring the same intensity and hunger into the season after winning it all last season?  All those questions will be answered in the 2014 Cowboys Classic.

Great way to kick off the season.

Rumor is Coach Mustard plans on bringing a few current and former Cowboys into the locker room for a pre-game pep talk.

Thanks fellas.

Btw, the league vote right now is 4 to 1 in favor of Missouri.  Does the league feel the loss of Taylor Martinez will cause a big drop in production from the Nebraska offense or do they just feel Missouri is prime for the victory in season 2?

Either way, the consensus is that the Cornhuskers will suffer their first loss in NCAA14 in the opening week of Season 2.

Interesting .....

Penn States Shuts Out FSU in 2nd Half to Win Road Opener

Whether it was the rain, opening day jitters, or the opposing Seminoles crowd, Christian Hackenberg looked more like JaMarcus Russell and less like a Pre-Season All-American. Hackenberg was all over the place, missing throws by 10-15 yards on his first few drives which included an interception. FSU, on the other hand, easily moved the ball down the field using the legs of QB Winston.

Coach Eversole blinked and saw the score 21-0 Seminoles. Hackenberg was able to find TE Adam Breneman open on a corner route with 24 seconds left in the half to bridge the gap just before halftime, 21-7.

Penn State began using more QB Spy plays in the 2nd half, and forced Florida State into several 3-and-outs and 2 long missed Field Goals. They abandoned the spread approach and began slowly moving the ball down the field with short passes to the tight ends and running backs to gain some offensive momentum. After 3 straight completions to Brenneman, freshman RB Butler ran in a goalline score. 21-14 Florida State headed to the 4th.

Hackenberg went 7/9 on the first drive of the 4th, and Akeel Lynch took in a 7 yard run to cap off the drive. Momentum had clearly swung in Penn State's favor.  Florida State was stopped with 4th and inches and opted for a 53 yard FG which came up short.  With 2:20 left, Penn State could play for a FG with plenty of time on the clock.

With 40 seconds left, Hackenberg was flushed from the pocket and barely got his feet set in time to hit an open Allen Robinson for a 24 yard completion. From there, Sam Ficken was able to kick a 21 yard FG for the victory as time expired!

Hackenberg settled down for a great 2nd half, finishing 36/53 for 368yards, a TD and an INT. Penn State ran in two scores but only managed 31 rush yards on 13 carries. TE Adam Breneman was the star receiver, catching 10 balls for 110 yards and a TD. HB/WR Justin Butler caught 9 balls for 87 yards, and WR Allen Robinson was held in check with 6 catches for 91 yards.

Penn State allowed 222 rushing yards, mostly in the 1st half, but FSU was only able to throw for 122 yards and was 1/5 on 3rd downs.

Braxton Miller was 10 of 10 for 284 yds and 3TDs

The bruins were ultimately doomed by 3 redzone turnovers, all inside the Ohio State 10 yd line.

Trouble in Columbus as the Buckeyes had absolutely nothing resembling a ground game, with 24 carries for 33 yds...the Bruin defense smothered every single running play.. Senior RB Rod Smith was benched at halftime however Brionte Dunn didn't do much better in the second half..

Season 2 - Week 1 Open NCA14PS3_67_GR_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_cmh
Winner winner Tiger dinner as the Huskers extend the longest active win streak in the nation and open up their title defense giving fans, and opposing coaches a lot to think about. The Tigers opened the game with the ball, but instantly turned it over with Pirate Maty Mauk (arrrrr Maty) giving Josh Mitchell an easy catch. The Big Red offense couldn't make much of the great field position and had to settle for a field goal. Missouri used the opportunity to to bounce back and take a 7-3 lead. Mauk would drive the Tigers down the field and find sasquatch WR Dorian Green Beckham on a slant for 6. DGB towers over defenders and would be a matchup nightmare for Shaq...
Season 2 - Week 1 Open NCA14PS3_63_GR_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_Brl
Nebraska opened up the 2nd quarer with 17 points though and never looked back. Another Bondi field goal led to a 50 yard Tommy Armstrong Jr run for a TD. Mizzou didn't seem dazed at all, and executed a beautiful drive down the field, drawing within 3 with 42 seconds to go in the half. Armstrong worked some magic though (T-Magic?) and led a 32 second scoring drive capping it off with a 3 yard TD run with 3 seconds left.
Season 2 - Week 1 Open NCA14PS3_66_GR_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_FSW
The 2nd half was all defense really. Nebraska did score a goalline TD on a 3rd and goal play action pass from the 1. The interesting finish of the game was Missouri scoring late and going for 2 to draw with eight points. Mauk looked for the back pylon on a flag route, and senior safety Corey Cooper stepped in front of the ball and returned the 2 point conversion for 2 points of his own.

Both QBs on the field completed over 70% of their passes on the day. Mauk was harassed with a few sacks and the early INT before he settled down. Armstrong led the teams in rushing, but the Tigers did a decent job of corralling Abdullah. And Missouri was held to under 20 yards rushing on the day.

FINAL SCORE
Missouri 20
Nebraska 32

Next week Nebraska gets to travel to Boise, ID to play on the Smurf Turf against the top 25 rated Broncos. It should be a great matchup if the HUskers can avoid the jet lag. The only other non-conference game on Nebraska's schedule is an old border rivalry with Kansas. A mere warm-up before the B1G opening gauntlet of Ohio State (BK_Buckeye), a short bye week, and then Penn State (illmatic_216), and Michigan State (SquirrelHunter), followed by perennial big dogs Michigan (CPU). Nebraska then has a decidedly easier schedule before facing former Offensive Coordinator Tim Beck at Minnesota before hosting Iowa, in a game that can have major implications potentially.

The young QB will have to  grow up in a hurry as the Irish face 8 ranked opponents and 5 user games, including traveling to #8 Iowa next week where Coach SteelPitt is coming off a bye to start the season and has had all off-season to game plan for the Irish.
Looks like I'll need every bit of that bye week to prepare for GA III.  341 ... uuggghhh.

Alabama handles Georgia Tech 17-14. Pretty tight first half but it was all Bama in the 2nd half. Tech just couldn't get anything going on the ground against the 99 rated everything Bama. Tech's only TD came on a streak route against a busted coverage.

Maybe I am just behind the 8 ball here, but I found out the hard way last night that there is a limit on your formation subs of 50. After playing Steel and Zach, I went to the internet to find some defensive tips since defense is total trash in this game. I added some plays and was doing formation subs when it said I had reached my limit. So now I gotta reset my subs and just add the more essential ones.
