Chat Box

Sorry for the constant change to the chat box.  Chatngo kinda sucked, but it worked on a basic level. Whatever forumotion has preinstalled was too static.  Everywherechat (currently running) requires a log-in everytime you load it up.  And I'm trying to avoid Xat at all costs.  If anyone has other recommendations, let me hear it.

Meebo? Dunno if that's free for you or not.

Tried meebo last year. it wasn't "live" and only refreshed when you reloaded the page, or it would constantly reset.

Ah, that's annoying. I guess other sites I've seen use Meebo are mostly for IM'ing purposes, not group chats.

I haven't stopped thinking on chat box solutions for the forum. As much complaining about the current forumotion chat box I've gotten, it seemed to work throughout the draft.

One idea I had was to look into a group messaging platform. That way it would be available on mobile devices, computers, and tablets. Huge upside, instant access. Downside is that I don't have any way of putting one of those systems on the forum, so it would be its own website/app/etc. and I don't know how how well communication would work and if it would enhance the league or hinder it.

Things I've found that might work are GroupMe, Mojo Groups, or something like Google+ or Facebook.

I have no experience with the group messaging items, but cross platform compatibility is major. Whether you can use a username, or are tied to your phone number is another issue. Google+ would work better than facebook because there's that anonymity that some people like and it's an easy google email they can set up. I'd love some of your thoughts.

I am cool with either one really, I didnt have any problems with this chat other the fact that it randomly "jumped" up a few lines and didn't show the newest entries in the chatbox and after scrolling down it always "jumped" back up everytime.
as far as another forum/app or whatever U wanna call it, that's fine by me and I dont have an issue with privacy/anonymity because I know we are all pretty mature and we might not see all eye to eye on everything but no issues are that serious to where I would be concerned bout my family or myself.,

Well in GSL we had 2chat boxs 1 regular main page. and the other that was used for trades and it had a wisper tool so only the person your sending the message to would get it.

I like the GroupMe or Mojo options. Looks like they have a nice cross platform support for cell phones too, which would be nice. I think the main thing we need is a private messaging option as well as a public chat that doesn't time out so quickly. Reconnecting isn't that big of a deal, but if you can sit in chat and BS with everyone while you're playing a game or whatever without getting bumped off, people would probably hang out in chat more, making the league feel more active lol.

I'm still trying to sort out the GroupMe and Mojo options, or other mobile solutions.

For the time being, I have xat's chatbox running again on the Portal. Don't get used to it, it might not stick around for long.

The xat blx seems to be no longer compatible on the ps3 & I can't access it on my phone either.

It's flash based. Many phones/tablets won't be able to use it. The PS3 one support missing is annoying. Sorry Demon.

What phone do you have? Try looking up something like Skyfire or Dolphin HD. They usually handle things on their servers instead of your phone. Might support flash.

Ahh okay. Have the Galaxy S III btw. I'll be sure to look those up.

Well I found a new chatbox to try. It's called Chatwing. YOu have to "log-in" but you can use Guest and create a name, or use one of the social media services provided. You can still change your username under Settings in the bottom right corner of the chatbox.

ChatWing is starting to bug out on me. Not sure about any of you. For 3 days I couldn't interact with the chatbox, and the chatwing admin page I set up wouldn't work either.

I've considered setting up a private twitch chat page and embedded it in the sidebar on the right. The downside is twitch doesn't archive past comments, only the live ones we've entered. But you can access it from the forum, or from the twitch website if you happen to be watching someone.

Also, I've only been streaming on youtube, and haven't streamed on twitch in ages.  It might not serve much purpose for me other than being on the forum.

Thoughts? Or other recommendations?

Xat as Ive said for years. Easiest interface to use by far.
