Proposed Rule Changes
Wed Aug 16, 2017 8:01 pm
I have not made any major rule changes yet. The rules post is long, but the number of explicit rules is short (No QB sneak, no speed rushers at DT, trade restrictions). The rest are guidelines on what is expected of you within a game (don't be a dick. Don't call plays like you're in a cheesefest tournament).
If you would so kindly go over the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and provide feedback, that'd be great. Thanks.
As far as injuries are concerned, if injuries are off, teams can worry less about their depth. But injuries have proven difficult to balance. I'm thinking of leaving injuries on, but lowering the amount of injuries, but spiking fatigue. And then turning injuries off when advancing the week so that sim games don't fuck us over.
Let me know what else might stick out and/or needs clarified/removed.

I like the modifications to the rules. In terms of gameplay, I vote for Play Style: Simulation and Injuries: On.
I know random injuries for long stretches can suck but if we're looking for a sim league then injuries do happen. It also downplays the team-building process with no injuries because quality backups are less important if there is never a chance they have to play for extended periods of time.
As for the Game Style, I do like the idea of the game being more geared towards player ratings and strategy rather than purely stick skills. I don't think Simulation will eliminate stick skills but the increase importance on ratings and scheme is important.
--------------
Simulation is the authentic NFL experience. This is the game style plays true to player and team ratings and NFL rules. This game style includes all supported penalties, injuries, and other random outcomes you see every Sunday. The players on your roster and the schemes you employ will be critical to success when playing Simulation. This is the game mode for players that are fans of football and want to play a game that’s true to that form. Simulation is the default style for connected franchise mode.
Competitive is all about head-to-head competition and tournament play. This is where user stick-skills are king and certain outcomes will be heavily weighted based on game situations and ratings thresholds. Penalties are limited, there are no injuries, and random outcomes are rare. Executing gameplay mechanics and making the right reads dictate success when playing Competitive. EA competitive gaming events and ranked online game modes will be set to this style by default. Be ready for some trash talk, for this is where the Madden hardcore reside.

Great points Pitt. I added the Red/bold/underline to your quote above. I think the most infuriating thing we face each year are the "Madden Gods" when it's very apparent at the start of the game that moment will only swing one way, and no matter what you do, your players are dropping balls, or the other team is unblockable.Steel Pitt wrote:[...]

Penalties have always been impossible to balance, like Roughing the Passer. But if they actually work this year, like off ball injuries, maybe it will be able to get balanced.
Hopefully we can customize and make the game feel like a hybrid of Simulation and Competitive in this way.
