Sorry in advance for the long read.

I've had a number of users ask me about integrating into DaddyLeagues for the added features they offer. For those of you unaware, Daddy Leagues is a site that costs $35 (I think?) to host a league with them for one game year, resetting every Madden release. They take your EA Origins credentials and log in as you to scrub the league sites to provide your stats, player awards, and other league activities. They also provide their own forum tools.

I've been hesitant to move everything over to the site. The cost is minimal, but paying for hosting and then being stuck with ads doesn't make much sense.  But mainly, it's a bit of a headache to get set up and format a forum to ones liking, and the other leagues I've looked at don't seem to match what I'd look for in terms of flexibility. Some leagues that are done well are tempting to want to replicate, but many others just look bland and disorganized.

Today, my phone popped up a link under a Google Now recommendation about a thread on reddit where a user asked the DaddyLeagues owner how he encrypted his site.  It blew up as the owner was dodgy about his website security. Neither party involved in the exchange handled things well.

So I warn you in advance, that DaddyLeagues appears to be a labor of love offering more convenience and league interaction, but not maintaining a standard of user protection. For someone or a group of people to turn it into a business venture charge money for a service should be more than acceptable, but refusing to answer how they handle your info is a major red flag. They do not offer any form of public Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, or End User License Agreement, etc. to protect themselves, or the users from them. As I refuse to sign up now, they may have those policies emailed directly to you, but they should be readily available.

Nothing bad has happened yet as far as reported account hacks.  And I'm sure the DaddyLeagues overlords have no ill intent to compromise its users. It also seems they turned on a form of SSL encryption while under scrutiny from this situation. But it seems reactionary, and not proactive. That's always a warning sign that they have only a partial knowledge of what they're doing, but aren't willing to do much more.

The source thread is full of drama if you care to read through it, be mindful that a lot of childish arguments are made amid some thought provoking comments. I'm no IT or legal expert, but some comments made me pause and think. Just be careful in every situation outside of this that your password(s) aren't the same between sites to protect yourself.

I'm happy with what we've got here on the forumotion side of things. If I was more technically proficient, I'd streamline things even more to offer more features that look better since forumotion's tools are very flexible. But, it's a long process to learn new things when you're not making the effort. haha

I'm happy with forumotion, but I guess I don't know what we could be missing out on with DaddyLeagues either.  What are we missing out on, or what are some of the features that people want?  I'm sure there's some alternatives or ways we can incorporate them here.  If so, I'm happy to help out if there's a way.

Even bigger is a warning for those that use the website with current leagues. It's enough to question its continued use until they clean things up a bit to offer a more legit service.
