We are now in the offseason and in the Coaching Carousel portion.

If you are definitely going to stay at your current school, please post here and I will force your pick to keep things moving.  If not, I hope you get some good offers as you look for bigger and better.

With that said ...

After turning down several offers including Head Coaching positions at Hawaii, Western Kentucky and South Florida, TomBarry DiClemente has accepted an offer to become the Offensive Coordinator at Florida State.

While he was asked to rebuild the offense at Air Force, in Tallahassee he will simply be asked to keep the machine running as the Seminoles are the two time defending National Champions.

In other news, Lane Kiffin has parlayed his one year as an Offensive Coordinator in Tuscaloosa into a head coaching gig at Fresno State.  In need of an Offensive Coordinator, Coach Saban has put Coach Mustard (current OC at SMU) on the top of his list.

Same here man.  I was hoping to get an offer as an OC from a low level Power 5 Conference team.  I was actually offered and turned down an offer to be the OC at Ohio State before I got the offer from FSU.

I was actually the OC at Ohio State in my personal dynasty so I didn't want to do that again.  I'd say it turned out ok. lol

Speaking of Truth

In a bit of irony, Truth originally joined as the HC of Bowling Green then dropped and created a new coach to be the HC at Miami (OH).  Well, I was looking over the coaching changes and the original profile he created got fired from Bowling Green but was hired to be the HC at Cincinnati (Truth's favorite team).

Well we hired Charlie Weis as our OC to give us a decided schematic advantage over everyone! We'll see how that goes...

We also had no juniors decide to leave early and have only 10 seniors graduating. Basically everyone is coming back next year except for Taylor Kelly. That on top of our recruiting class means we'll be alright.

Unfortunately we have 20+ Seniors on our roster for next year......so yeah............yikes......

16 players are leaving Bama, three of which are angry about playing time. On a bright note, Coach Saban was able to convince three players to stay and get their college degrees.

Florida State Hires New Offensive Coordinator

Tallahassee, FL - As is the case with winning programs, the assistant coaches become hot commodities and things were no different here in Tallahassee as following a second straight undefeated National Championship season the Seminoles Offensive Coordinator Randy Sanders has left to take a Head Coaching position elsewhere.  Head Coach Jimbo Fisher took his time with his search and found his man on an Air Force base in Colorado.

TomBarry DiClemente was introduced today as the new Offensive Coordinator of the Florida State Seminoles. Coach DiClemente's name became a popular one in the coaching carousel that is the college football offseason after taking over at Air Force, implementing a multiple style attack and turning a triple option attack offense into one of the more potent and diverse offenses in the country.  That improvement offensively helped to turn the Falcons from a 5-7 team into a 13-1 team that won the MWC Championship and the Fiesta Bowl.  Coach DiClemente turned down multiple offers before accepting the Offensive Coordinator's spot at FSU including the Offensive Coordinator job at OSU and Head Coaching gigs at Hawaii, Western Kentucky and South Florida.  According to Coach DiClemente, "It just felt right when I was here in Tallahassee and working the white board with Coach Fisher".  Its safe to say that he will be given much heavier artillery to work with at Florida State than he was afforded at the Service Academy.  Coach DiClemente went on to say that upon accepting the offer he immediately started reviewing tape, checking out the offensive weapons he had to play with and started revising his playbook.

In addition to runnig the offense, Coach Fisher has asked Coach DiClemente to take a bigger role in recruiting.  Coach Fisher, already known as a master recruiter, is looking to spend more time with his family and deligate more duties to his assistants.  Coach DiClemente was up for the challenge and sounded excited to see what the current progres for the upcoming class looked like.  The first order of business though was to try speak to several underclassmen thinking about leaving the school early for various reasons.  Coach DiClemente was able to convince 4 out 5 players to stay with the lone exception being a freshmen DT looking for more playing time.

We'll get a closer look at Coach DiClemente's recruing skills in the upcoming weeks as he'll try to lock up the last couple recuirts on the fence as the recruiting period comes to an end.  Then Coach DiClemente will have Spring ball and Summer camp to implemente his new offense which will have the benefit of a fifth year senior, former Heisman winner under center in Jameis Winston who stayed true to his fathers words and remained at FSU for the full five years.

Apparently Coach Fisher has been feeding into the hype and slacking off a little as he didn't hit the recruiting trail as heavy as I would have expected, which is probably why he is planning on delegating the duties of Recruiting Coordinator to Coach TomBarry DiClemente.  I advance to the Recruiting week only to find a plethora of high 50 and low to mid 60 OVR recruits planning on coming to Tallahassee (not sure how many will make the roster).  I think the class ranking was in the 20-25 area which is highly unexpected for a Jimbo Fisher recruiting class.

Coach TomBarry DiClemente pays immediate dividends as he is able to convince three 4 Star recruits including the #4 and #9 CB as well as the #8 OG in the class.  The signings moves the Seminoles class to #14 in the final rankings.

Arizona State Recruiting Update

We are super happy to report a top 10 recruiting class in our first year. We capped off our recruiting by signing two defensive players that should see immediate playing. These were the only targets we had in the off-season.

Preston is by product of our thorough recruiting database that identified an OLB with 99 acceleration & 87 hit power! He's ready to compete for playing time in our hybrid defensive scheme. Reid is no slouch himself as he comes in with experience and high ratings in important areas as well. We are thinking of starting both of these guys with Freshman All-American D.J. Calhoun.

With recruiting and training done, as we approach the start of Season 2 and in keeping with the "Offseason Story Lines" theme I pose the following questions:

Which returing player on your team are you most intrigued with or eager to see perform?

This could be a good player that is poised to have a breakout season, a former backup that is set to takeover for a departed senior or a weak spot on your team that you weren't able to upgrade.

Which newcomer (New recruit, red-shirt freshmen or transfer now eligible) are you most intrigued with or eager to see perform?

I'm at work so I don't have access to my roster right now but I'll give it a try.

Which returing player on your team are you most intrigued with or eager to see perform?

The easy answer is QB Jamies Winston who returns for his redshirt Junior season.  I believe he is currently rated 99 OVR.  But the person that caught my eye and had me thinking of the possibilities was WR Kermit Whitfield.  He is arguably the fastest player in the country and you may remember him returning a TD on a kickoff as a freshmen in the National Championship Game vs Auburn.

He has a 99 SPD and 99 ACC rating, and while his CTH rating could be better, it is good enough for a potenitally dangerous slot WR.  The thing that really made him interesting is that he has really good RB ratings such as 94 ELU, 85+ BCV, 90+ JKM and 80+ CAR.  With my starting RB leaving as a senior I was very very very tempted to change Whitfield's position to RB in the offseason considering I didn't have an eye-catcher waiting in the wings.  However, his size (5'7" 180lbs) and INJ rating (62 I think) ultimately led me to keep him at WR.  He's definitely going to see his share of touches as I'm thinking of him as being sort of my "Offensive Weapon" type position ala Percy Harvin at Florida where he'll line up primarily as a slot WR but will also get looks as a RB, QB in the Wildcat, etc.  I already started revising the Playbook and trying to think of ways to get him the ball (screens, Jet Sweeps, line up at RB, WR Options, etc).

Which newcomer (New recruit, red-shirt freshmen or transfer now eligible) are you most intrigued with or eager to see perform?

I'll have to come back to this one.  Like I said I don't have access to my roster right now and I only personally recruited 3 players (offseason). I do know that I was in need of CB's and I managed to sign two good ones (4 stars and 75+ OVR) in the offseason but I'd have to check the roster again to see if they're in line to crack the lineup.  But then again, I am the offensive coordinator so I'd only see them play in user games anyway, lol.

This one is pretty easy Senior Quarterback Jaquez Johnson who lead the team to an 11-2 season with an iffy run game, now the team returns the two leading rushers and an added speed unit at WR. It will be funny in Sunny South Florida!

Which newcomer (New recruit, red-shirt freshmen or transfer now eligible) are you most intrigued with or eager to see perform?

Again this one was pretty easy, #4 SS True Freshmen John Taylor, who is 6'6, yes you read that right, and no I did not make that up. Taylor also boasts a 75catch rating and 89 jump at 6'6, Let's go!! Also someone to keep an eye on is super weapon JUCO recruit Luke Mills who is the #1 WR on the team as well as being the most accurate passer.

Which returning player on your team are you most intrigued with or eager to see perform?

This is, perhaps, a cop out answer, but holy Lord, T.J. Yeldon.

First, recall that in his last coaching gig, Mr. Mustard was able to ride HB Kevin Pope to an NCAA rushing title, despite ratings in the mid-to-low 80s. Opponents should be very afraid of what he'll do now that he has a freak athlete at his disposal.

In the 99 OVR Yeldon, who decided to return for his senior year, Mustard has a stud all-around back with clear Heisman potential. His quickness is nice, but not other-worldly: 92 Speed, 92 Acceleration, 90 Agility. Then you look at the intangibles: 97 Break Tackle, 97 Stiff Arm, 91 Trucking, and 91 Juke.

Yeldon isn't going to be easy to bring down on first, second, or even third contact — and that's on the plays that Alabama's stud offensive line lets any defenders near him in the first place.

Which newcomer (New recruit, red-shirt freshmen or transfer now eligible) are you most intrigued with or eager to see perform?[/quote]

I'm gonna pick two, because they're basically the same guy, and they'll be duking it out for playing time as the 4th WR.

80 OVR True Freshman E.J. Hunter is 6'3, 210 with good speed (94 SPD/93 ACC), but needs to work on his hands (79 CTH/70 CIT).

80 OVR Redshirt Freshman Cam Sims is 6'4 210 with good hands (83 CTH/80 CIT) but only average speed (88 SPD/90 ACC).

Mustard is notorious for benching guys who can't hold onto the football, so expect Sims to be the favorite to get the nod this year coming out of camp. But don't be surprised if Hunter surpasses him on the depth chart as his catching ability improves.

For me it would be senior HB D. J. Foster. We had a 1,000 yard rusher last year in Lewis who stepped in when Foster went out for the season in week 2. I'm interested in seeing how we can get him in the mix along with our stud wideouts.

Which newcomer (New recruit, red-shirt freshmen or transfer now eligible) are you most intrigued with or eager to see perform?

No one. No really. We have 23 seniors and 16 juniors, so most of our top ten recruiting class is being redshirted. We have a small window to win a national championship this year, so we are going with our most experienced and skilled players.
