Is anyone following this?
Fascinating article that one report could come up with and an entire University and the NCAA wouldn't have been able/willing to sniff out.

It's insane what people believe are rights instead of privileges.

The NCAA rule book needs to be completely rewritten and be made applicable for today's environement. Kids these days feel too entitled for gifts and such.

Yeah that's a crazy story, but I bet that kind stuff -maybe not quite as over the top- is going on at all the big schools!

At the end of the day when these kids don't value the free education and see that the schools making millions of dollars of those big time sports, then they feel that sense of entitlement to at least get a few little perks! lol

my mom is originally from miami , so I've always been a fan of the U , I was hoping they make a return to greatness , but of course it's looking very bad right now!

I followed this scandal and I have a lot of thoughts about NCAA as a whole as well as this situation.

The kids get such a raw deal when it comes to these scandals and it is a joke in my opinion. I hate Ohio State, but I don't fault a single one of their players for trading their memorabilia or jerseys for tattoos or money. In my opinion, they should be able to do whatever they want with those items since they were given to them.

With the Miami situation, I think it is really easy to sit back from a distance and say that they knew it was wrong and shouldn't have accepted these luxurious things. At the same time though, I really don't believe that 99% of people would truly turn down money, women, or any other luxury if it was being held right in front of their faces. These are kids that are teenagers or barely 20 years old. Do they know right from wrong? Absolutely. But like I've heard some college athletes say in interviews, a football scholarship doesn't put food on the table or help out their families. You've got a lot of young kids without much money putting in insane hours of work for what ends up making the school incredibly rich. Not everyone gets a full scholarship, and even though a free education is an amazing thing to have, it really isn't proportionate to the amount of revenue these teams generate.

The NCAA makes such a gigantic financial killing with college football. They will sell a jersey for a $100, but then suspend and scold a player who sells his jersey for a tattoo. It just seems really hypocritical to me. If I am one of those Miami players, I sure as hell am not refusing a yacht trip with gorgeous women when it's offered to me. Reggie Bush helped make USC larger than life back when he was their with Lendale and Leinart, and now he's banned from the university? It's such a crock of shit in my opinion. I really don't know how you can blame a young kid who doesn't have a lot of money, for accepting a gift or some dollars.

Then once the punishment comes down, the players who had nothing to do with it get fucked in the ass. Once the player is out of college, they can't punish him, so they punish the rest of the guys still on the roster by putting them on probation or not letting them play in bowl games. Hell, if I'm one of the guys who didn't do anything wrong, I'm pissed off that I didn't take some money or cars since I am being punished anyways.

I started ranting a little bit there, but the NCAA just really pisses me off. I don't have a suggestion on how to fix players receiving benefits but I feel like the negativity towards the players is unwarranted and undeserved. All the scandals of college sports has really turned me off from the game these past few years.
